Everything We Know About HousePlant, Seth Rogen’s New Weed Company

Seth Rogen is trending madly all over Twitter today. The multihyphenate actor/comedian/pottery-maker/professional stoner just launched a new business venture called HousePlant. In news that will surprise no one, HousePlant is a cannabis company. You could say that Rogen turned his hobby into a side gig that was tailor-made for him.

In his video announcement, Rogen was visibly stoked to share the news with the world:

“Hi, I’m Seth Rogen, and if you know anything about me at all, I’m going to assume that it’s that I really love weed.” He continued, “But, what you probably don’t know about me is that I’ve been working on my own weed company for the last 10 years, and we are finally ready to launch in America. It’s called ‘HousePlant,’ and what we’re doing is bringing you the best strains of weed that have been handpicked. By that, I mean hand smoked by me. It’s just the weed that I love that I want to be smoking. It comes in these adorable little tins. We have an orange one for Sativa and a purple one for Indica, and it even stacks!”

“Another thing we’re doing is making beautiful house goods for people who smoke weed. We’ve things like this block table lighter, which is a table lighter with an ashtray with a lid. I lose my lighters all the fucking time, but no more. ‘Cause this dude is hard to lose. This is just the beginning. This is honestly my life’s work, and I’ve never been more excited about anything. I hope you enjoy it.”

Rogen teased Twitter with images of HousePlant products, which include mix tape-style albums of songs to listen to whilst smoking marijuana.

He also shared an up-close look at HousePlant’s Pancake Ice sativa. (Sativa is a marijuana strain generally known for a more uplifting and energetic high, although your mileage may vary.)

HousePlant actually launched in Rogen’s native Canada in 2019 as part of the Canopy Growth Corporation. Rogen’s longtime writing partner, Evan Goldberg, is a co-founder. Now, Rogen has succeeded in bringing the budding company to the states.

HousePlant has two Instagram presences: One for cannabis, @HousePlantUS, and one for home goods, @HousePlant. Both accounts have a couple of placeholder images so far, so it looks like we’ll have to wait to see all the goodies that Rogen will be selling. The same goes for his site — HousePlant’s homepage lets you sign up for an upcoming newsletter and has hyperlinks to the Instagram accounts, but little else.

We could make a joke about how only a stoner could spend 10 years working on a passion project, only to launch with an empty website, but we actually want to give Rogen the benefit of the doubt. Cannabis is a quasi-legal industry that’s growing fast thanks to the states that have decriminalized, or outright legalized, marijuana in its recreational or medicinal forms. Of course, at the federal level, marijuana is still an illegal controlled substance, although public opinion has shifted in favor of marijuana legalization in recent years.

While Rogen stated that the official HousePlant launch is today, March 1, 2021, Rogen said that the products will be available in California starting next week. At this point, it’s unclear if HousePlant will be selling cannabis products directly to consumers, or if the company will sell wholesale to marijuana dispensaries. Regardless, if you want to be one of his first U.S. customers, sign up for the brand’s newsletter.

Like a lot of us, Rogen picked up a new hobby during the stay-at-home era. The actor has developed a loyal following on Twitter, where he occasionally shares images of his colorful pottery. Honestly, we would love the chance to buy some of his work, as his ceramic ashtrays and vases are really cool. And according to the HousePlant announcement video, the new cannabis company will be selling ceramics, too.
