Then, along comes Apple in the spring of 2015: the consumer electronics giant launched its then-newest iconic gadget, the Apple Watch, to the market in April — which quickly became the world’s best-selling wearable device in the quarter following. The Apple Watch Series 1 and 2 followed in 2016, with Series 3 launching in September, 2017. Series 2 is now discontinued, while the second-generation Series 1 is still being made as the entry-level version of Apple’s flagship smartwatch.
